Here the Krückau flows into the Elbe after 40 km.
The Krückau is created in the south of Kaltenkirchen, south of the Carl-Benz-Straße industrial area, from the convergence of drainage ditches and rain retention basins. Before 1878, the origin of the Krückau was in the area of today's southern industrial area of Kaltenkirchen, east of Hamburger Straße, but this was sealed by the development.
On its way to the mouth, the Krückau flows through the two towns of Barmstedt, where it passes the castle island and Lake Rantzauer, and Elmshorn. It is also fed by other small streams, including: fed by the Offenau. In Barmstedt it touches the aforementioned lake and flows through an artificial fish ladder. At the mouth of Seestermühe there is a barrier which is closed when there is a risk of storm surges and protects Elmshorn and the marsh communities.
The Krückau is around 40 km long.

Wide view, many 🐑🐑 and great nature. The quiet is wonderful too. In order to cross the Krückau via the nearby barrage, you should note the opening hours (see photos).
