As can be seen in the photo, the "smallest ferry in Germany" is only operated by a ferry association on weekends between May and the beginning of October. A nice article can be found here:
Well worth a visit. The operators are extremely nice!

Smallest ferry in Germany for people and bicycles
Since May 1, 1993, this small cultural asset has been in operation again as the smallest ferry in Germany and the only hand-operated ferry in Schleswig-Holstein.
Every year more than 7,200 people take the opportunity to hike or cycle through the beautiful march to cross the "Bundeswasserstraße Krückau" between Seester and Neuendorf in the traditional way.
The ferry boat was built from oak according to the historical model; the safety regulations currently in force had to be taken into account. For safety there are rescue pillows, first-aid kits, emergency straps and an anchor on board.
As has been customary in the "land of ferries" for centuries, the transfer takes place in the old seaman's way by so-called "sculling" with a "belt". Here it is important for the ferryman not only to master this technique, he must also be very familiar with the flow conditions. The ferryman must prove this knowledge and ability to an official examination board. For this he receives a driver's license for passenger transport.
