The small island of Loreto is located north of Monte Isola, opposite Carzano. Now privately owned, it has been inhabited for many centuries. Gabriele Rosa noted "ruins of walls and two square turrets" there, the remains of ancient fortifications. At the end of the 15th century, the island became the property of the Sisters of St. Clare, who were part of the monastery of Brescia, and they erected a convent there. By 1910, a neo-Gothic castle had already been built by Vincenzo Richieri, who had planted a magnificent conifer park around it, complete with a small harbor and two turrets. From an inlet with two lighthouse turrets, you can climb up to the rectangular, two-story villa. The villa is very evocative thanks to its turret, battlements, light-colored stone walls, and a perspective view that can be enjoyed from the side, as it stands on a cliff overlooking the lake.
