Hiking

The Innerste Valley Railway was a historic railway line connecting the Harz Mountains with the Harz foothills. Construction began in 1874 and was a masterpiece of engineering, as the line had to wind its way through the difficult terrain of the Harz Mountains. In 1877, the railway reached Clausthal-Zellerfeld. In 1914, it was even extended to Altenau. The railway was not only important for tourism but also essential for the transport of ore from the surrounding mines.
