A masterpiece of 20th-century mining engineering, Porto Flavia was built in 1924 to load minerals extracted from the Masua mines directly onto ships. Carved into the cliff overlooking the sea, the structure comprises two superimposed tunnels and nine silos capable of holding up to 10,000 tons of material. This system revolutionized mineral transportation in Sardinia, reducing loading times and costs.
Today, the restored site, open to guided tours, offers a 700-meter trail inside the mountain and a spectacular view of Pan di Zucchero, the highest sea stack in the Mediterranean.
