The Schäferhof Neuenkirchen e.V. (Neuenkirchen Heathland Sheep Farm Association) was founded in 1976 by local residents, the municipality, and the tourism association to cultivate and preserve the natural interrelationship between the heath and the Heidschnucke sheep, the "Lüneburg Heath."
