The Ahlftener Flatt is a heath pond that was formed in a wind blowing trough from the last Ice Age.
Heather ponds are shallow still bodies of water that literally invite you to take off your shoes and bathe your feet in the cool water. However, a walk along the Ahlftener Flatt is also worthwhile in cooler seasons. Changing leaves, snow or fresh spring green always provide a fascinating sight, and with a bit of luck bird watchers can even spot rare water birds.
