"Maria im Peterstal in Heisterbach."
Later, it was simply called Heisterbach Monastery.
This name also appears above the entrance gate on a coat of arms.
The abbey's most famous monk was Caesarius von Heisterbach (1180–1240).
A remarkable entrance portal & a great photo opportunity -
a large parking lot for hikers is available right next door.
Impressive quince trees are visible right after passing through the portal.
It smelled so wonderful -
