The Donkey Gate was built during the construction of the ramparts in 1297. The gate was rebuilt in 1369, and further modifications followed until the 17th century. Eventually, the upper structure was demolished. The lower structure remained intact throughout. The gate was thoroughly restored in 1906. The most recent renovation dates from 1991 to 1993. Today, the Donkey Gate houses the Anima Eterna Brugge orchestra.
