The couple, the Nuremberg bell founders Hermann Keßler and his wife Elsbeth, ordered in 1374 "that one should not sin against the hospital". In foundation charters, the purpose of the foundation is also clearly stated: "The weak, the poor and the homeless should have the care of the hospital".
