General Description:
A fairly uniform moor complex covering 182.3 sq km between Oldenburg, Edewecht, and Bösel. Bounded to the southwest and partly to the south by the boggy valleys of the Aue-Lahe and Lethe, to the northeast by the Haaren valley, and elsewhere by more or less pronounced ridges. Divided in two by the roughly north-south Vehne valley. The Vehnemoor originally extended to just before Barßel in the northwest; today, large areas here are cultivated by deep plowing. Accessed by the Küstenkanal (constructed between 1854 and 1894) and the accompanying federal highway 401, the main road.
