The city's new Roman Catholic church, built in 2003, became known as the Millennium Church (Millenniumi templom). It was consecrated on October 18, 2003, in honor of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and the Hungarian saints. The two-towered central church unites the past and future of the Hungarian people. Five crosses above the doorways in front of the towers symbolize the ten centuries of their Christian history. The decorative patterns of the gates are typical of Szekler gates and feature Christian motifs familiar to Szeklerland. The interior of the church represents an all-encompassing space intended to evoke a sense of infinity and boundless tranquility. Its yurt-like design, a tented house, is both a biblical and a Hungarian heritage found throughout Eurasia. The center of the tent roof is covered by a large glass dome. Above it stand four 5.7-meter-high red copper statues depicting the archangels Michael, Gabriel, Raphael, and Uriel. Their hands extend protectively over the church. They were created by local sculptor Ödön Nagy.
