Hiking Highlight

A truly mighty, vertically towering rock. The path leads directly past the base of the rock, where an information board tells you about the quartzite rocks in the Hunsrück region. You can also venture onto the rock from the forest path above, which is accessible via a narrow path after working your way through the prickly blackberry vines. The rock is severely jagged and doesn't seem particularly stable, so it's best not to venture over the deep cracks to the very edge.

The Bilstein is a quartzite rock. Such rocks and rock stretches are characteristic of the hills of the Hunsrück. Here at Bilstein you will find an information board where you can read about how exactly quartzite is made.

A mighty boulder made of granite. The hiking trail leads right past his foot.
