Cormac's Chapel is the central architectural treasure of the Rock of Cashel. It is the oldest Romanesque church in Ireland, built from 1127-1134. The sandstone building served as a template for numerous other church buildings on the island and was only (carefully) restored in the last few years up to 2017 and is now well protected. The more than 800 year old frescoes, reliefs and head busts are impressive. The guided tour of the chapel offered on site is highly recommended.
