The fish auction house in the harbor of Goes is a national monument on Turfkade, at the corner with Kleine Kade.
The trading of fish in Goes initially took place at what is now called the Oude Vismarkt (Old Fish Market). From the mid-16th century, the trade shifted to Turfkade. A fish market with an auction house was opened here in 1647. The market consists of an iron gate where the fishwives would stand to buy fish. The auctioneer was located behind a hatch in the auction house. The house was extensively renovated in 1745, demolished in 1912 and rebuilt in its original state. The domed roof of the auction house is adorned with a mermaid. This is a copy of the original, which was stolen in 1982. Several gable stones depicting fish are incorporated into the facade.
