In Hoi An, you'll find the iconic lantern boats that cruise the Thu Bon River in the evening. Many tourists, usually in pairs, take the opportunity to cruise around in the glow of the lanterns attached to the boats, a very typical Hoi An experience. This creates a special atmosphere along the promenade, albeit somewhat subdued by the now-prevailing "event" atmosphere.
