In 1822, the Leipzig merchant Maximilian Speck, who was later raised to the nobility and has since been made an honorary citizen, acquired the Lützschena manor. He laid out a 19-hectare park, now known as the Schlosspark (Castle Park). Inspired by the typical alluvial forest landscape, he designed the grounds in a natural way, integrating small artificial waterways and the existing trees. The park was also enriched by numerous statues, small buildings, and monuments, of which only a few remains remain today. Only the Temple of Diana has been restored over time. Over the years, the park's tree population has changed several times. The area has been a listed monument since 1977, and in 1998 it was additionally designated as the "Burgaue" nature reserve. Although the Schlosspark is now once again privately owned by the Speck von Sternburg family, it remains open to the public. Speck von Sternburg was made an honorary citizen of the city of Leipzig in March 2025, partly in recognition of this achievement. The Lützschena Auwaldstation and Schlosspark Friends Association is committed to further development.
This station was created as part of the "Leipzig Northwest" Discover Green Corners tour by the Alliance 90/The Greens parliamentary group.
