Kai Nielsen (1882–1924) was a major Danish sculptor from the first 20 years of the 20th century. He worked with marble, granite, bronze, plaster, and clay to express the idea of what he wanted to create as an innovator in Danish sculpture. His art expresses the optimism of the time with vitality, power, and strong emotional expression, in which form and content together form a higher unity.
