The old chapel in Konau (17th century) was probably destroyed by a dike breach. The services then took place in the houses of the two mayors.

With the construction of a new school in Konau in 1906 a prayer room was set up in it. After 1945, the socialist state insisted on a strict separation of worship and teaching and pushed the community out of the school building. 1949 began the construction of the chapel on a dyke in Popelau, 1957, the inauguration took place.
The St. Luke's Chapel in Konau and Popelau is the only church in the restricted area of the GDR. Today it is also a showroom about the recent history of the villages Konau and Popelau.
