Water wheel on the Trubach in Egloffstein

The original use of hydropower was resumed here: the Trubach near Egloffstein carries around 1000 liters of water per second. Some of this water runs over a water wheel and drives a generator. The amount of energy generated in a carbon-neutral manner is around 18 kilowatt hours and is fed into the municipal power grid. Only part of the water flows over the water wheel so that fish and amphibians can still pass through this point.

In Egloffstein, the traditional use of hydropower was resumed: the Trubach carries approx. 1000 l / s of water at Egloffstein. Part of this water runs over an overshot water wheel and drives a generator. The CO²-neutrally generated amount of energy is approx.
18 kWh and is fed into the municipal power grid.
So that fish and amphibians can continue to pass this point, only part of the water flows over the water wheel.
The difference in height of about 3.25 m is passable via a hiking aid (fish pass), which was built from natural stones.

The water wheel is a very special and interesting construction. It is a little refreshment, especially in summer 😉 .
