Remains of a round tower of flint, which also incorporates older Roman material. Part of the medieval wall from the 13th century. The name is that of an important Tongeren family (14th century), and the tower was originally connected to the Steenderpoort via a street within the ramparts, the Velinxstraat.

Hiking

The Velinxtoren is a round corner tower and a remnant of the medieval city wall from the 13th century. This medieval wall with six gates and thirteen towers surrounded a city area of 54 hectares. Part of the Roman wall was reused. From the Moerenpoort a new wall was built along the Jeker riverbed to the Velinxtoren. The tower was named after a prominent Tongeren family from the fourteenth century. In the nearby cultural centre de Velinx, part of the sixteenth century city wall has been incorporated into the foyer.

Velinx Tower, Tongeren.
The Velinx Tower on the Albertwal in Tongeren is a remnant of the 13th century city walls. Older Roman material was also used in the round flint tower. The name of the tower refers to an important Tongeren family from the 16th century. In 1992, the tower, with the adjacent wall section B, was protected as a monument.
