"At the unveiling of "The Homecoming" statue on May 4, 2010, Captain John Mason appeared in his original uniform. It was decided to use the funds collected by the Homecoming Statue Committee to create a second sculpture. Nathan Scott was commissioned, and the "Veteran Sailor" sculpture was unveiled a year later, on May 4, 2011."
