The Forstwerder, also Saalwerder, is a protected river island in the north of the city of Halle (Saale) in Saxony-Anhalt. It belongs to the district of Trotha.

The island is 715 meters long in the direction of the river and is up to 180 meters wide. Its area is around eight hectares. The terrain elevation is on average around 75 m above sea level. NN. The lowest point (71 m above sea level) in the city of Halle is on its bank.

The island is surrounded by the Stromsaale, which flows from south to north, and a mill race on the right in the direction of flow. Between the two bodies of water is the parallel lock canal of the Trotha lock (km 89.2), which separates the island lengthwise into two parts, of which the left and larger part is wooded.

The island is located in the high water area of the Saale. Its western bank (Stromsaale) is characterized by the natural dynamics of the river on the formation of bank zones with gravel and mud banks and cliffs.
