Tips

  • The Sachsenwald barracks were built by 1969 on the approx. 13 hectare site on the B 207. Originally, the entire site belonged to Gut Lanken, which the federal government was able to acquire with great negotiating skills. The Panzergrenadierbrigade 16 often held events on the estate. In 1970 the keys were handed over to the Bundeswehr, or rather to the Panzergrenadierbrigade 16.The 600-hectare site training area is directly adjacent to the barracks area. This large area was necessary because, among other things, the 164th Tank Battalion was stationed in Lanken. In September 1994, the Sachsenwald barracks were then handed over to the federal property management in the course of the dissolution of the Panzergrenadierbrigade 16. (Last time "collect flag")In October 1997, the former barracks area was bought by the district's business development agency for DM 9.4 million.
Since 1998, the majority of the buildings have also been demolished and the industrial park and logistics park in Lanken has emerged on the site of the former Sachsenwald barracks. On June 17, 1998, the groundbreaking ceremony was celebrated with a big party.

  • Military training area, it was a military training area - not a military training area. And unfortunately many sections of the old network of paths are now closed. Unfortunately there are only a few routes that you are allowed to walk, the rest have been closed by the agricultural industry for agricultural purposes. The current network of paths on Komoot and on all other map services such as Google Maps does not correspond to the actual paths that are accessible to the public. You plan a hike there - want to walk it and suddenly you are standing in front of a locked cow pasture tractor access gate that says "No entry"
