It is a remnant of the former gravel pit mine, covers an area of 21 hectares, and is a popular recreational and bathing spot for residents of the surrounding towns of Maust, Neuendorf, and Wilmersdorf.[2] Boating on the lake is permitted only for commercial purposes.[1] Within the lake is a small island, which is mainly used by birds.
