In the 1980s, the political opposition movement "Orange Alternative" criticized the communist regime in Poland with spontaneous actions, such as demonstrations in dwarf costumes, and erected a cast-iron dwarf (Papa Dwarf) in Wrocław's Old Town.
Later, in the summer of 2001, the first dwarf statues were installed throughout the city as a project by students of the Academy of Fine Arts.
There are now over 500 of the small bronze statues.

The "Wrocław Dwarf" at Słodownia is a great little photo spot right on the Oder – perfect for combining with a short walk along the water.
Tip: It’s best to go early in the morning or in the evening, then it’s quieter there and you can photograph the dwarf without many people in the background. A detour into the Old Town of Wrocław nearby is also worthwhile – the dwarf hunt works best there because small figures are hidden everywhere.
