    Tintern Abbey was founded in 1131 by Walter de Clare, Lord of Chepstow. It fell into disrepair after the king Henry VIII ordered the dissolution of the monasteries in the 16th century.
    Today it's a paid for entry tourist site attracting around 70,000 visitors per year. You can see a lot from the road though or from one of the many local cafes.
