Húsavík is a picturesque and historic settlement on the east coast of the island of Sandøy. The name means "bay with houses" and is apt for the charming collection of old stone houses, some of which feature the typical thatched roof. Húsavík is one of the oldest settlements in the Faroe Islands and has a rich history dating back to the Viking Age. The village church, dating from 1863, is also built of stone and has a distinctive thatched roof. There is no supermarket or café on site; residents travel to Sandøy, about 9 km away, for these needs.
