The "viewing pulpit" of the Chiemgau is called the Hochfelln. Elsewhere on the edge of the Alps, before the first higher mountains, there are smaller ones, the Pre-Alps. Not so here at the foot of the Hochfelln. To the north, the smooth Bavarian lowlands stretch for more than a hundred kilometers. The mighty glacier that stretched into the valley here in the last ice age left behind a few scree walls, nothing else. Every attempt at a pre-alpine hill was flattened. The armor of the glacier was up to 300 meters thick here in the Ice Age. When it melted, the original Chiemsee was formed. So much meltwater accumulated that the lake was more than twice the size of today's excursion paradise. That was a few thousand years ago. A few moments ago in geological terms.

An alternative route for hikers, but perhaps weakened nature lovers, begins at the Steinbergalm, from Ruhpolding to reach by car, parking EUR 2.
From there to the middle station runs a beautiful and easy to walk forest road with very low gradients.

The Hochfelln is always worth climbing. Numerous paths lead you to this popular Chiemgau summit. It is understandable that there is always something going on here, because the view is magnificent. In front of you is the Chiemsee and behind you a sea of mountain peaks.
No matter which way you choose, rustic alpine pastures will tempt you to sit and feast. Don't be tempted too early, because you shouldn't miss the view from the summit!
If time is still short, you can use the Hochfellnbahn to shorten the ascent or descent. Information at: hochfelln-seilbahnen.de
