In the Park Sanssouci (Prussian Palaces and Gardens Foundation) near the main entrance is the Church of Peace. King Frederick William IV, who said he would rather have become an architect than a king, drew a first draft of the church modeled after the Roman basilica of San Clemente and had it built by his master builder Ludwig Persius. The church is surrounded by the peace pond. an arcade leads through the Savior's Gate. The royal couple of Sanssouci Palace came to the service through this gate. The church is romantically reflected in the calm water surface. The king wanted it that way, so the pond was laid and sealed with a layer of clay. The water comes from the fountain complex of Sanssouci Palace.
