In the late Middle Ages, the priests of Kittlitz lived in what was then the allodial estate of Wohla. The castle was built in the mid-18th century. In 1756, the manor of Wohla passed into the hands of the Rötschke family, who leased it to Friedrich Gießner. After Hermann Rötschke's death in 1893, Friedrich Gießner acquired the manor of Wohla.
