On June 17, 1875, the railway line from Berlin to Dresden was opened. Eight years later, the village of Lichtenrade was given a stop on the still single-track line, which opened on June 1, 1883. The 30 meter long gravel side platform was located south of what is now Bahnhofstrasse. The track of the Prussian military railway ran on the west side from 1875, which was dismantled again in 1919 after the First World War.

In 1892, the line was double-tracked, and the two-storey station building in yellow brickwork was built north of Bahnhofstraße. The service rooms were on the ground floor of the unadorned functional building, while the station master's apartment was on the upper floor. To the north, an official residence was built in the same style, between the two there were single-storey service and toilet buildings.
