Uetzing was first mentioned in a document in 1137. It was part of the basic equipment of the St. Getreu cell in Bamberg and was a feudal property of "Waldo Preter Vtzingen". The next mention was around 1139, when Bishop Otto assigned income from properties to the St. Gertrude hospital, including "Utzingen". The place name probably goes back to the personal name "Utzo".
