Additional explanation: No region is as well-known for eel dishes as the creek area in the Meetjesland. Especially eel 'in the green' or 'in the cream' are typical for the region.
De Roste Muis is one of the well-known eel restaurants in the region. The creeks as remaining witnesses of flooded polders from times gone by housed large populations of eel. For many fishermen it was once a mischievous activity to catch eel with cross nets and to bluff the line fishermen.
