Ernst Carl Erdmann Heine (often Carl Heine and in combinations of names also Karl Heine, * 10 January 1819 in Leipzig; † 25 August 1888 in Schleußig) was a Saxon landowner, lawyer, entrepreneur and liberal politician (DFP). He was a member of the Saxon state parliament and the Reichstag. As an industrial pioneer, he had what is now the Karl Heine Canal built and shaped the face of Leipzig's inner western suburbs and Plagwitz.

Hiking

The 3.5 m high monument is dedicated to the lawyer, and industrial pioneer and inaugurated in 1887. It was originally located on the north side of the Palm Garden, and in 1938 moved to its current location. In the war, it was melted down, and in 2001 rebuilt on the still existing pedestal.
