In the 6th century, monks built St. Catherine's Monastery at the foot of Mount Sinai at an altitude of 1,585 meters to commemorate the burning bush in which Moses saw God. An offshoot of this biblical plant can be found in the courtyard of the monastery, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Today, Greek Orthodox monks live in St. Catherine's Monastery, which is considered to be the oldest continuously inhabited monastery in Christianity.
