Red Lane isn't an attractive route. Going up it is too narrow and cars struggle overtake as cyclists will be slow (it's steep). Coming down there are large stone troughs at the sides of the road backed by stone walls - not somewhere you want to leave the road.
There are quite a number of cyclists who use the route but certainly not one of my favourites.
