Old railway line converted into a traffic free greenway. The route used to form part of the Nottingham Victoria to Derby Friargate Great Northern line. A few of the embankments have been removed so there are more slopes than you would normally expect on a railway line but still nice for safe family cycling.
At the eastern end, the route is intended to continue to Ilkeston but currently ends at a country road that isn't really suitable for family cycling so best to turn around and return along the greenway. Parking available in Breadsall village by Station Road. No refreshments stops on the route although the Windmill pub is close by and reached by a bridlepath.

This was the Derbyshire and Staffordshire line, the station opening in 1878. In 1953 it was closed to passengers and in 1962 to goods. This was quite a substantial station. The line then continued west to Derby Friargate and on to Burton upon Trent. East it went to West Hallam and Nottingham Victoria and on this station a shopping centre now stands.
