The high moor in the Breungeshainer Heide is a particular rarity, not only for the Vogelsberg, but for the whole of Hesse. Because apart from the Red Moor in the Rhön, there is no other high moor in Hesse. Although it is rather small with its approx. 4 ha, it is still a piece of nature that is particularly worthy of protection in a national comparison.
