Here in 1958 only one hole was dug to fill a river. The hole became a lake around which trees were planted and over the years developed into a park.

After the tree planting the park was opened to public in 1959, initially named Fahua Park. Construction of the Yan’An Elevated Road and the elevated metro line to the south and east of the park clipped off some of it.
Its landscape also changed multiple times over the over the years, so did its name. In 1975 it was re-opened with its current name: Tianshan Park.
