Henneckenrode Castle was built in the 16th century and has remained largely unchanged to this day. After several changes of ownership, the Landrentmeister Friedrich Blum bought it around 1820. In his will, he decreed that after his death his castle should be transferred to a foundation and used as an orphanage.
In fact, the Diocese of Hildesheim ran a children's home in the castle until 2017.
