The Schaliënhuis is located at “de Plaetse” or “Huffel”, which is now called the Old Village. It is one of the oldest existing houses in Loenhout.
When it came into the possession of the Van Elsacker family in 1560, it was one of the most special houses in Loenhout. It was a large farm with a brewery and a taproom. As an attentive observer, you can still see a wrought iron fan with brewer's attributes incorporated above the monumental entrance door.
