The enormous market square (Republic Square) measures an incredible 193 x 139 meters – one of the largest in Europe! On the north side is the beautiful Renaissance town hall; however, the square is dominated by St. Bartholomew's Church, which towers above everything else by several times (the next superlative: the tower is 102 meters high! The tallest church tower in the Czech Republic!). (Notable in the cathedral is the Art Nouveau altar by J. Kastner, 1900.)
