The substance of the church goes back to the 12th to 15th centuries and is essentially preserved to this day. In a monastic document from 1135, an earlier church building is mentioned for the location of St. Peter. A church Romanesque cross building made of limestone and bricks existed in the same place in the late 12th century. In 1375, the extensions to today's Gothic church began, the substance of which is made of red brick and which is considered to be one of the largest and most famous Gothic buildings in Denmark (Wikipedia).
