    Watermill Tangsehl

On the edge of the large forest area of Göhrde lies the town of Tangsehl, which consists of only two farms, with its mill on the small Göhrde stream.

The mill, first mentioned in 1353, seems to have often suffered from water shortages with its overshot water wheel, and even the mill pond behind the main house from 1875 was often unable to provide the necessary compensation. In 1870, for example, the miller at the time built a windmill not far from the farm, which was destroyed by a lightning strike immediately after its completion.

A second attempt at the same place also failed: Lightning struck the mill again and burned it down. So it stayed with the water mill, which received its current mill building in 1900, a multi-storey half-timbered building.

However, this new construction was not, as is so often the case, connected with the installation of a turbine. In fact, it only worked with its water wheel until it was closed for commercial use in 1963. A water wheel has been turning again for several years at the mill, which is still fully equipped.

And if you want to explore the large forests around the mill, the Mühlenhof offers guest rooms. Recently, the Tangsehler Mühle has gained a reputation as a concert venue as part of the "Jugend musiziert" funding project.

A nice little watermill, but unfortunately it is no longer in operation.
