In this cemetery lie buried some 200 brothers who were part of the congregation of Brothers of the Christian Schools. The graves are identical and the crosses are cast in concrete from the same mold. The Catholic congregation of the Brothers of the Christian Schools was founded in 1680 by the priest Jean-Baptiste de la Salle (1651-1719) in Reims. The congregation is involved in education worldwide. Until 1937 Bokrijk was the center of the congregation in our country. For example, there was a retirement home for elderly brothers. They were also buried in the cemetery.
