The Linz Gate, also known as the Bridge Gate, is one of the remaining city gates in Stein. It forms the western entrance to the city, thus pointing toward Linz – and thus got its name.

The name "Bridge Gate" comes from the Danube bridge to Mautern. Until the late 19th century, the bridge office building, the bridge toll, the timber depot, and the apartment of the carpenter responsible for the bridge were located in front of the gate.

The gate was built around 1470 and – as an entrance to the city – was considerably more impressive than it is today: above the archway was a fresco by Martin Johann Schmidt, the famous Kremser Schmidt, who lived in Stein for many decades and also ran his extremely productive painting workshop here. This fresco depicted the figure of Iustitia, the personification of justice, along with the city and state coats of arms.
