This geological landmark is characterized by the confluence of two important geological zones: the internal zone of metamorphic rocks and the external zone of folded sedimentary rocks such as limestones and marls. Particularly striking are the so-called molasas – coarse-grained calcareous sandstones deposited in former reef areas.
