In 1952, Reverend Dean Frans Rooms decided to have an auxiliary church built here, on a parish plot for the neighborhood school.
On January 6, 1956, the new church was consecrated by Monsignor Karel Callewaert and placed under the protection of Our Lady, Queen of the World.
The Stations of the Cross and the statues of Mary and Saint Joseph are the work of sculptor-painter Valery Stuyver. The stained glass window "Regina Mundi" was designed and executed by former Zele resident Jaak Van Geffen. The communion rail is the work of metalworker Verlent.
