Pienza Cathedral was built by Rossellino between 1459 and 1462 as a three-nave hall church with an ambulatory. Despite its Renaissance facade, the church is based on typical northern Alpine Gothic buildings, thanks to the numerous trips made by the later Pope Pius II, including to German countries. Pienza Cathedral was built on a square that was artificially enlarged. Therefore, the cathedral had to be supported. A crack runs through the middle of the nave.

Hiking
At the back of the cathedral there is a crack in the floor and behind it you can see a slope. The reason is that the dome was too big and the rear part too heavy for the underground.
